I have set off to Yogyakarta which is another city located approximately 500 km away from Jakarta. A number of flights are operated every day by several airlines including Garuda Indonesia the national carrier. Flying time from Jakarta is roughly 50 minutes.
The city is located at about 35km from one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The last volcanic activity seen was In 2010 when parts of the city were affected by volcanic ash. Jogja (the local name for Yogyakarta) is also known for the two world heritage sites Prambanan and Borobudur. While Prambanan is the site of a hindu temple, Borobudur is one of the wonders of the world with more than 500 Budha statues around a Stupa built in the 9th century.
There are a number of universities in Jogja including the prestigious University of Gadja Mada.
